California is set to introduce a ban on engineered quartz countertops in response to an alarming rise in silicosis cases among workers. With 662 reported diagnoses, the consequences have been dire, including deaths and the need for lung transplants. The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health has declared this a health crisis.
